Lauren "Sales" Again

Summer is here and so returns our little entrepreneur. Lauren decided that she was not getting enough business at her stationary 'sale' stand, so yesterday she decided to go door to door selling her wares. (Emma and Halle had tried a lemonade stand last weekend but all of the business came from our coin jar and from Emma recruiting the several friends already over at our house!) This time it was flowers that Lauren picked from the yard, set up her box and off she went! 10 minutes later she returned with a big smile and $3.94. She sold about half of her flowers/weeds. She matter-of-factly told us of all her good customers. I had to laugh! Not a bad haul for a 7 year old in 10 minutes!

Catching up on Summer...

Summer has been a whirlwind so far so I thought I would catch up with some of our happenings...The day after getting back from Las Vegas the kids started swimming lessons. It was SO COLD outside. I thought for sure that lessons would be cancelled the days that it was raining and only 45-50 degrees out! It practically snowed! The pool water was very steamy and I sat trying to read while FREEZING!!! (I did finally finish The Host-and LOVED it!) We all survived-with colds- but it got better. No pictures though! The boys also started their tennis lessons the first day of swimming and had their last lesson today. They were really good to get themselves up and ride to the park for 8am lessons. (We only slept in one day!) They enjoyed it again but no pictures. We have been going to the Library on Tuesdays and to the Scera summer movie series on Wednesdays. No pictures. It has finally been warm enough to use our pool pass to go swimming and just have fun. We have watched movies in our park with friends and neighbors and have finally enjoyed the warm up enough to get our new front door in. We had fun having Jess here for the week that Jeannie and Brent were in Canada and have consistently had 5-9 kids here for sleepovers, meals and play.

Jace turned 12 on Father's Day this year so we celebrated his birthday the day before. I was in charge of the Primary activity that morning, but in the afternoon Ben and Mike took Jace, Tanner, Jess and 4 other friends to play glow-in-the-dark golf at Trafalga. They had fun and came back for cake, ice cream and presents...Thank you everyone! We celebrated Father's Day with breakfast in bed for Ben and all the usual hooplah! Of course we forgot to take pictures. Emma and Lauren made him some fabulous "ties" at our Primary activity the day before that he wore to church...so we'll have to remember to take pictures of them on another time...and we enjoyed dinner and G&G Livingstone's.
Earlier in the week Ben was off on their Handcart Trek. They had about 140 youth and several leaders and had a really good experience. Everything he had worked on since January came together and was great I hear. I was able to surprise Ben by traveling out to the site with a friend to meet the incoming "pioneers".

15 Seconds of Fame

While Ben was gone to Trek I recorded some TV spots for a friend Maria Carr (with whom I travelled to the Trek site). She invited me and several others to share some thoughts and insights about home and womanhood that she is going to include on her TV show. Her show airs Thursday mornings at 9am on KJZZ. We shot these spots in her home a few doors down and they will be included randomly in her shows so we don't really know when they will be on...which is probably good because I felt totally uncomfortable in front of the camera! She asked us several questions to answer and we would record and re-record, change positioning and lighting and hair...I was so nervous and I'm sure it showed so I won't feel bad if anybody never sees any of it! I haven't even seen the end product...yet.

6th Grade Graduation

I can't believe Jace will be in Jr. High next year! Time flies...I remember feeling really old the year he started Kindergarten...where does that put me now...ancient, I suppose! Here are a few pics of Jace the evening of graduation and the awards ceremony the next day. Jace was awarded a Presidential award. It is a special award for the top CRT test scores nationwide. I don't really understand all of the stipulations for getting it but I guess it is pretty stringent. He got a special certificate with a gold presidential seal on it signed by President Bush and the Education Secretary (I think). He was one of 6 kids in his class to get it...pretty cool for a kid who had a REALLY difficult time keeping up on assignments and getting them in on time. Maybe testing is his thing! Onward to Jr. High! Way to go Jace! Oh, green shorts is Jace doing the Haka and another 'dance' during the school dance festival.
